Hijab-wearing women are a demographic that has been virtually ignored for years by major brands and retailers. The recent feature of a hijabi model by one such retailer has provoked much debate and actually, quite a lot of excitement. It’s seen by many as a positive mainstreaming of the hijab into the fashion industry but is this a dangerous slippery slope? Fareena discusses the exciting topic of Muslim Fashion with a panel of experts, asking them whether hijab fashion industry has exploded in recent years and has it gone in a positive direction?

Shemiza Rashid is a former fashion designer and stylist, now a teacher of fashion and retail. Shemiza hosts modest fashion events such as Saverah Fashion weekend and Muslim Life style expo.
Asghar Cheraghzadeh, who sources and supplies clothing to numerous west end theatre houses and has more recently been commissioned to design and supply for a feature film.
Shahida Rahman is an award-winning author, writer and publisher. One of her many works is on The Integration of the Hijab into Police Uniforms and she is currently writing her second novel.
Nabila Fowles-gutierrez is a midwife, activist and musician, was involved in the Prohijab campaign to raise awareness and support Muslim women who choose to wear the hijab and continues to campaign to end Islamophobia and working towards cultural, religious and political inclusion.
